Couple Relationship Strengthening

I work with couples to assesses their relationship and identify areas of strength and areas for growth using Prepare and Enrich Couples Assessment. I also tools and techniques from the Gottman Method. 

​

Prepare & Enrich is an online, customized assessment for dating, engaged and married couples that helps them become more aware of their relationship strengths and growth areas.
The core areas that are covered are communication, conflict resolution, partner style and habits, financial management, leisure activities, affection and sexuality, family and friends, relationship roles, and spiritual beliefs (optional).

Other areas that are also examined and processed together are the couples, closeness and flexibility, family of origin, personal stressors, four areas of relationship dynamics, and five factors of personality.

The couple will receive their own customized couples' report and a couples' workbook that contains exercises covering the major topics from the assessment. Each couple will get a snapshot of their relationship dynamics, and together we will develop a plan for moving forward and practicing the skills needed to fortify the relationship.

Please note that the couples' assessments are wellness tools and are not covered by insurance. Similarly, most couple therapy is not deemed medically necessary by insurance companies except for limited cases. When you contact me, ask for more information.

​Insurance and Payment Information

I strive to make the therapy process as seamless as possible, including understanding your insurance benefits and payment options. Below, you'll find key details to help you navigate the process.

In-Network Insurance Providers

I am an in-network provider for:
  • Anthem
  • Carelon 
  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield
  • Sentara
  • Lyra
  • Optum
  • United Healthcare
If you are covered by any of these plans, your sessions may be partially or fully covered depending on your specific benefits. Please contact your insurance provider directly by calling the member services phone number on the back of your insurance card to confirm coverage details and understand your out-of-pocket costs.

​Out-of-Network Insurance

If your insurance provider is not listed above, I am considered an “out-of-network provider.” However, you may still be eligible for partial reimbursement for therapy sessions. I can provide a SuperBill each month, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
To determine how your plan compensates for out-of-network services, contact your insurance provider and ask:
  • Does my plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible, and has it been met?
  • What percentage of the therapy session fee is reimbursable?
  • Are there any session limits or restrictions?

Things to Consider About Using Insurance

If you choose to use insurance, it’s important to understand that:
  • Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis for coverage and only cover services deemed “medically necessary.”
  • Not all reasons for seeking therapy may qualify as “medically necessary,” so you’ll want to discuss this with me before proceeding.
  • Insurance providers may request details about your treatment progress, service dates, and diagnostic information.
  • Managed care companies can decide the necessity and duration of your treatment without consulting you or your therapist directly.
If privacy and autonomy in your treatment plan are important to you, you may prefer to self-pay rather than use insurance. I am happy to discuss these considerations in greater detail during our initial consultation.

Navigating insurance policies and payments can feel overwhelming, but I’m here to help you make informed decisions. Feel free to reach out with any questions or for further guidance. Together, we’ll find the best path forward for your care and peace of mind.

Payment Information

Payment for all copays, coinsurance, deductibles, or out-of-pocket costs is due on the day of your appointment. To make the process easy and convenient, I accept the following forms of payment:

  • Credit cards
  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
For your convenience, you may securely store your card on file for seamless processing after each session.

Insurance does not cover missed appointments or late cancellations. Full payment is required for these instances.
